My First Journal Entry

Hi. My name is Dillan Thomas Chandler, and I’m two days, three hours and nine minutes old. My parent’s names are Jason and Tina Chandler, and today is my first day at home with them. I was born in Salt Lake City, UT at the University of Utah Hospital downtown. It was a little ways to drive for my parents. We live in Midvale at 7318 S. Cypress St. My parents have lived there since May, when I was still months away from being born. They graduated from Utah State University (maybe I’ll go there someday), and moved down here for work. My dad works at a place called Galileo Processing. He does web programming for them. My mom is going to stay at home with me, but once she feels better, she will work part-time at Techskills, Inc. as a Pharmacy Tech mentor. They both work very hard so that I will be able to have a nice home and plenty of fun times to write about in my journal.

Right now mom and I are taking a nap while Dad types this up for me. There are three activities that I have mastered so far and they are:

1. Sleeping

2. Crying

3. Eating (although I’m still a little unsure about this one)

The hospital was a pretty crazy experience. I came into the world at about 5:05 in the evening, and was screaming right from the get go. It made my parents happy to hear I had such nicely developed lungs. We’ll see how much they appreciate my lungs in a few weeks. I weighed seven pounds and eight ounces when I was born, and was 20½ inches long. My parents had a long list of names they liked, but they were having trouble deciding what to name me. Once I had been cleaned up and my mom was holding me, they took a look at me and at the list, and each picked two names they thought fit me. Each of them picked Dillan and another different name. Since they both somehow picked Dillan from the long list, they knew that was the right name for me. I think I’m going to like it.

After the nurses did some mean stuff to me, I finally got to go back into the hospital room with my mom and dad, and meet my extended family. Both sets of my grandparents were there, plus Aunt Joni on my dad’s side, and the following people from my mom’s side: Aunt Amy and Uncle Mike, Aunt Nicole, Aunt Annamarie and Uncle Eric, and my cousins Trayton, Spencer and Jayden. They all were very excited to meet me and everyone wanted to hold me. I cried some while they passed me around, not because I didn’t want to meet everyone, just because everytime I got comfortable, that’s when they decided to pass me again. Finally they left and everything settled down. Both Mom and Dad stayed with me in the hospital that night.

Saturday was a little calmer at the hospital. Aunt Amy came to see me again, and Grandma and Grandpa Chandler came with Aunt Joni and Aunt Denise. Neither of them stayed for too long, and I spent most of the day watching college football while laying on Dad’s chest and eating food with Mom.
